China is the primary country producing vanadium in the world. Presently, the primary producing areas of vanadium slag, vanadium oxides and vanadium iron are southern Africa, China, Russia, America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan  . 90 percent of metal vanadium is used in steel & iron industry. The other is used in activator and dye, etc.. About 1000tons of vanadium nitride are consumed in home every year. Besides, many steel plants also use vanadium in the format of adding FeV to improve steel material’s performance. About 605 tons of vanadium nitride are used in special steel making. 40 percent is used in common steel plants to smelt high-strength alloy steel. The use of vanadium containing in reinforcing steel bar is increased obviously in recent years. Vanadium consumption strength is used to express the application level of vanadium used in steel & iron industry in the world. The consumption strength is denoted with the kilograms of vanadium consumed in producing 1000tones of steel. Since from 80s, the consumption strength has been increased to 50kg/1000t in 1998 from original 30kg/1000t, increasing 67%. For the future, this consumption strength will increase further along with the increase of high-strength light steel material. But the consumption strength is only 20-25kg/1000t in present China. This difference is obvious and the potential is huge.
It is obvious that our country’s vanadium production has kept ahead in the world. But the application scope, scale and level are not advanced. This is much inappropriate with the status of a primary country. To enlarge the application of low-alloy steel is an important mark for upgrading steel product’s structure and embodying steel industry’s industrial level. Therefore, it is one of important tasks of striding towards a large, strong steel country to promote vanadium and steel including low-alloy steel greatly and to adjust steel product’s structure. Presently, many European and American countries use vanadium-nitrogen alloy technology to produce high-strength steel material. The development of vanadium-nitrogen alloy is much difficult, belonging to top-grade technology in the metallurgic industry. Before this, there is one American country realized the production of vanadium-nitrogen alloy product. The brand name is Nitrovan. “Dinghua” vanadium-nitrogen alloy developed by ourselves has got important technical innovation in normal-pressure, stable, continuous, closed, commercial production technology, Tby furnace design and tempe rature control technology, catalysis technology, felting and molding technology, material drying and dehydration technology, product analysis and application technology, etc., particularly, the high-efficiency, low-cost, Chinese characteristics vanadium-nitrogen alloy production technology changes original vacuum, interim technology into normal-pressure, continuous technology. The reaction time is shortened within 5hours from original 40~60hours. The 500t annual output realizes commercial production. We will catch the opportunity of the construction of production area for national 863 new material in Maanshan to improve national level of vanadium nitride alloy and quicken the industrialization of vanadium nitride alloy.
